We have chosen a triathlon that is beginner friendly as our first "official" team event. We encourage all OTTC members - newbies, beginners, intermediate, and advanced - to sign up for this triathlon. The Giant Acorn Sprint Triathlon, which takes place at Lake Anna Beach Marina, is a 750 meter lake swim (calm water), fairly flat 12 mile bike course, and gently rolling 5 K run. It is a late season triathlon, so temperatures will be quite agreeable and the water temperature will be cool enough to wear wetsuits (a plus for those of you not comfortable with swimming). Check out the following site for more details:
Sign up soon, as there is limited space. This race fills up before race day. The Virginia Triathlon Series and Setup Events tend to put on well run events. All levels of experience race in their events from the begginner to the elite. They provide great race support and after race meals.
We would like this to be as much a social event as an athletic event. We plan on setting up the team tent and banner. It will be a great opportunity for first timers to get acquainted with triathlon. You will have more experienced team members on hand for guidance and questions. Come on out and support your teammates and have a great time.

A 10AM start, a crystal clear heated lake, super fast bike and run courses and Brunswick Stew. What more can you ask for? Located just 45 minutes SW of Fredericksburg and 45 minutes NW of Richmond at Lake Anna Beach Marina this is the final race of the 2009 Virginia Triathlon Series.
Swim Course: The swim begins with an in water start with the course going around the transition area and the finish line. Your friends and loved ones can walk around the race site and never be more than 150 yards from you as you make the 3 right hand turns that make up the course. This section of Lake Anna is unique in that the water coming into this section is used to cool the power plant and is a good 6-10 degrees warmer than the rest of the lake. The water was 72F in 2006 and 77F in 2007 and 74F in 2008 which is pretty nice for October!
Bike Course: With a right turn out of the marina the bike is all on fresh pavement and is mostly flat with some rolling sections. The best section is mile 1.5-2.0 where you will race across the causeway with water on either side of you.
Run Course: The run is a simple, fast out and back course along the rural roads of Louisa County. Be sure to mark this one on your calendar as the last must do event for 2009.
Great event! This was my first tri and it was so much fun. The weather and water were perfect. Darryel, Todd and David: thanks for organizing this and for all the advice.
Does anyone need a ride? I can carry 2. Are there any recommendations for places to stay? I could look at getting a cabin or a condo if anyone else is interested in pitching in.
