Hey everyone,
I am a newbie and just signed up for the Giant Acorn Olympic. Might as well jump in head first right? lol....well now that reality has set in I am looking for a good training program, and who better to ask then the people that have done them before. I found a few online but was wondering if anyone had some tried and true programs that they really liked. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help with training so far and cant wait to get this first one behind me. Thanks, Gray |

I am getting ready to sign up for this one too. Love to know what you find out. If anyone has a good swim coach please pass that along too.
Thanks, Nicole |

I joined Alexandria Masters (www.alexandriamasters.com) last summer/fall and have loved it! There are lots of practices, reasonably priced and great coaches. I swim MWF mornings at 6:00am. There's even breakfast most mornings. ;) You can try out a swim once and you can join unlimited or for one swim a week (average). I hope that helps!

I can't help you with swimming or triathlon itself, but I can help you with cycling. Hit the weight room twice each week (doing the same workout), specifically leg presses, squats, and leg curls, all with full range of motion and strict control. Alternate periods of about 6 weeks, one using lower reps (6-8) the other higher reps (15-20); each time you go back to the prior reps (low or high) you should use more weight. After six months of developing a solid base begin to incorporate single leg presses and single leg squats. Ideally, if you have time, spin easy on the trainer for an hour after each workout (no easy feat even just spinning).
If you want more detail I'd be happy to discuss. |
